L-R : Sleeping like a baby is good for you ; Healthy foods pyramid

We promise ourselves beginning of each year about what we should be doing to improve our health and lifestyles in general, but none of us seems to even take one step towards starting what we have promised ourselves to do. As we start looking at what can motivate us through leading a healthy lifestyle I challenge you to take a step forward and at least follow one or two of the advice below to start leading a healthy life today.

Exercise

Most people would think that exercise is a labour thing that we all must do in order to stay healthy. However, exercise not only improves your health, physically, mentally, and spiritually, it can also bring a lot of enjoyment to your life if you work out correctly. It does not matter if you want to stay or become healthy, feel better, get more energy or lose weight, it is very important to exercise to receive the full health benefit.

Sleep

If you have problem falling asleep like myself, waking up multiple times at night, or cannot fall back asleep, by preparing your mood and environment I have been advised severally, can help increase your chance of a well night sleep and keeping it for life.

Nutrition

No one likes to have high cholesterol level because it could lead to a terrible heart attack or stroke. Try eating healthy foods throughout the week to help lower your cholesterol level. Vegetables, fresh fruits, white meat e.t.c can help one lead a normal health lifestyle without having to worry about a possible heart attack. If you have a hard time applying these healthy foods, the three things you should do is cut back on your fat, sodium and most importantly stop drinking sugar-sweetened beverage

Positive thinking

Positive thinking is a mental attitude that admits into the mind thoughts, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favorable results. A positive mind anticipates happiness, joy, health and a successful outcome of every situation and action. Whatever the mind expects, it finds.

Not everyone accepts or believes in positive thinking. Some consider the subject as just nonsense, and others scoff at people who believe and accept it. Among the people who accept it, not many know how to use it effectively to get results. Yet, it seems that many are becoming attracted to this subject, as evidenced by the many books, lectures and courses about it.  It has been proven that positive thinking helps a person live a healthy life by taking things as they come and being positive about every thing life.

Spirituality

Spirituality is the base for fulfillment, connection, and happiness. A belief in something greater than what you see or hear is the hope that fills the void that many souls carry deep inside. Spirituality is where you go when everything changes and nothing seems to make any logical sense – and these are times of intense change. It’s a place for you to rest, regroup, and recover your energy and a sense of self. Spirituality is the source where you find the strength to go on when you don’t feel like you can (or should). It’s that miraculous feeling that however unique an individual you are, you are also the same as everyone else, and connected to everything that exists. Spirituality is where you go to find the answers to life’s biggest questions, when you’re tired of living a lie. Spirituality is the glue that ties your mental, emotional, physical and planetary health together. It’s what transcends time and space and connects you to your past, present, and future, and to all living things everywhere.

Without it, you may feel hopeless, depressed, disconnected, lonely, alone, unmotivated, confused, deprived, unworthy, insecure, less than, and lost. None of these descriptions fit with what you would define as a healthy person.

It is within our power to live a healthy life, neither is it too early or too late to start taking care of ourselves seriously to live longer. If you have never tried, start toda, remember a journey of a thousand miles, starts with a step. Live healthy in 2011 –HAPPY NEW YEAR!
