Amavubi stars’ poor finishing has been largely blamed for Rwanda’s goalless draw against Burundi on Wednesday.

The Amavubi Stars assistant coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira told Times Sport upon the team’s arrival from Burundi that the strikers wasted numerous scoring opportunities against Burundi.

"Abedi Mulenda who is Rwanda’s top striker at the moment failed to utilize a number of goal scoring opportunities while his fellow mate Jimmy Gatete is only trying to regain his form," Ntagwabira said. Ntagwabira further added that apart from the striking force, the Amavubi team defense and midfield is well built.

"We need to beef up our striking force before the 2010 African and World Cup qualifiers get underway," Ntagwabira said.

With adopted striker Bokota Labama missing the Burundi trip, the striking force which is comprised of Gatete, Mulenda and Elias Uzamukunda must sharpen their boots if they are to get along with a demanding goal scoring Amavubi team.

Wednesday’s game against Burundi is one of Amavubi stars’ build-up games before playing Morocco, Mauritania and Ethiopia in the 2010 Fifa/Can qualifiers. Rwanda will start their campaign on May 31 with a date against Mauritania in Kigali.

Rwanda will face Ethiopia away in Addis Ababa on June 7 before hosting the Atlas Lions a week later. The Amavubi Stars will then fly to Rabat on June 21 for a return leg against the North African giants.

On September 7, the 2007 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup losing finalists head to Nouakchott for the second leg against Mauritania before winding up the campaign at home with a clash against Ethiopia on October 12.
