Patrick ‘Patycope’ Rukundo

The name Patycope needs no introduction in Rwanda’s music industry, not as a musician but a seasoned music promoter.

Born Patrick Rukundo, Patycope is a dedicated player in the industry who, through his social media platforms, has dedicated his life to promoting Rwandan music over the past decade.

He often wins awards in recognition of his tireless fight for Rwandan music where he won the Social Media enthusiast of the year during the Smart Awards in 2016.

He also won the special recognition as the ‘Most Supportive Entertainment Personality of 2021 before he was voted ‘Events Promoter of the Year’ during the 2022 KIMFEST Awards.

But how does he spend his weekend?

The 33-year-old shared with The New Times how his perfect weekend looks like.

My weekend starts on Thursday evening where I go to enjoy ‘Igisope’ at Fuchsia Bar (also known as Kwa Jules), Kisimenti then I pass by different night clubs and bars like Boogaloo, Shooters Lounge, Chillax Lounge , Fuchsia, Maison Noire , Kaizen Hotel , 2 Shots Bar and other nice fun places to hangout.

Most of the time, I don’t go alone. I am always with friends with whom we hang out and enjoy some music together.

On Fridays and Saturdays, I check on my friends. It’s when most of them have free time after a long week at work.

On Sundays, I like to go to watch Gakondo night or Igisope. I like to watch cultural music performances.

In the beginning, my friends would ask me to go with them to watch such Gakondo music performances but, for the moment, I am the one who tells them the best plots for cultural music performances. so I can’t miss it on Sundays.

Generally, I have busy weekends, especially when there are concerts. There are friends of mine who can’t miss the shows ...so we meet here and there.

But of course I have to spare time for my daughter no matter how busy I may be. It’s my responsibility to keep that bond between us. I also help her do the homework or make sure she does it.

Actually we spend time together during the day then when she goes to sleep in the evening, I leave home and start my night hustle.
