HUYE - The Police at Ngoma Police station in Huye District are holding a woman suspected to have dumped her newborn baby in a pit latrine.

Angelique Mukambayire, 21, a resident of Maraba Sector was arrested on Wednesday after village leaders were tipped by residents that the baby she had delivered the previous night was missing.

Talking to The New Times at Ngoma Police Station on Thursday, Mukambayire said that she had a stillbirth and thereafter decided to dump the body in a pit latrine.

"It was a still birth,” said Mukambayire, "I never wanted anybody to know about it so I walked for five hours to the nearby Save Sector where I dumped the body in a pit latrine.”

Police, in collaboration with local residents, retrieved the body from the latrine and buried it. According to a Police source, investigations into the case continue before the suspect is arraigned in court.
