Rwanda enters camp ahead of women's Afrobasket qualifiers

The women’ national basketball team, on Wednesday entered a 10-day residential camp in preparation for the upcoming the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Zone V Qualifiers slated for February 14-19 at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo in Kampala, Uganda.

The squad, which is under the tutelage of Senegalese head coach Cheikh Sarr and his assistant Patrick Habiyambere, is camping at Sainte Famille Hotel and will be doing training sessions every day at STECOL court.

Rwanda will join hosts Uganda Egypt, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Somalia who all confirmed their participation for the qualifiers looking to book a ticket to the Women’s AfroBasket 2023 finals that will take place from July 26 to August 6 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The national team already have an automatic ticket as hosts but coach Sarr wants to use the competition as an opportunity to put his women through their paces earlier to get them ready for the finals.

The Senegalese tactician recently said that he will exclusively use local players during the qualifiers before they are joined by international players when the team undergoes decisive training camp in June.

The team travels to Uganda on February 12.
