Since Monday, November 8, 2010, a wave of tree planting swept across the Rwanda. All sectors of the community from the Head of State to the local community leaders have been involved, to the thrill of the local communities.

In some instances, local farmers have been allocated the land to grow their crops as long as they promised to maintain and look after the trees.

About 44 million trees are being planted countrywide during this week under the theme; "Let us plant trees and protect them for an enhanced harvest.”

As the national ‘Tree Planting Week’ kicked off, the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), led by the force’s top brass, planted about 15,000 trees worth Rwf 7m in Kami, Kinyinya Sector in Gasabo District.
