KIGALI - Preparations are in high gear for this year’s National Children Summit slated for November 16, in Kigali, the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF) has announced.

A total of 416 children are expected to attend the summit, including a child representative from each Sector, children with disabilities will have five representatives, and two from refugee camps.

According to the Information and Communications Official at MIGEPROF, Grace Ruzibiza, three of the other four East African member countries have also confirmed attendance.
"We have invited two participants each from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, and this time, the Democratic Republic of Congo will also be attending,” Ruzibiza said.

This year, the event will be held under the theme "The role of children in education fit for them.”
Ruzibiza said that ever since the children’s meetings were initiated, it has brought positive changes in the mindsets of Rwandan children.

"During the event, children discuss and express their views to their leaders on various issues, and this time they chose to discuss about their education,” she said.

"According to a survey we made, children had reasons why they chose to discuss about their education.”
Representatives from all over the country are expected to be in Kigali on November 13, so as to have two days for preparations.
