Rugby gets new boss

Alex Kamanzi was handed a two-year term of office after being elected as president of the Rwanda rugby federation (RRF) on Sunday.

After the elections, Kamanzi who is the president of Gorillas and also a found member of the local federation said that with the support from the government, he would work towards reframing the image of Rwandan rugby.

"I will take the sport to greater heights firstly by making sure that most of our local clubs have fully functional administration structures,” Kamanzi said.

Kamanzi’s executive committee includes Alex Araire (1st vice president), Gerald Nsengiyumva (2nd vice president), Javier Ugeziwe (secretary general), Joseph Bugabo (assistant secretary general), Aimee Muyombano (treasurer) and Jean de la Paix Hategikimana (technical director).

After a below par performance on the local and international scene in 2007, Kamanzi also promised to step up the country’s performances in the region.

In 2002, Kamanzi was voted president of the federation put resigned two years later sighting incompetence within the federation’s executive committee.
