It’s just now that I am beginning to understand why cash power gets used up almost as soon as it gets uploaded on the electricity meter—mark you that this is on top of the monthly Rwf500 that is deducted from every household that has electricity in the entire country.
This is all from a report that The Ministry of Infrastructure, in partnership with the Investment Climate for Africa (ICF), revealed. The report states that an ordinary Rwandan customer pays Rwf132 (22 USc) per/KW VAT inclusive.
This report has come as an eye opener for many Rwandans and let us hope that action will be taken to reduce these tariffs to a lower rate just as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Marie Claire Mukasine, promised.
