KIREHE/NGOMA - Bank de Kigali has opened four new branches in Kirehe, Kibungo, Kabarondo and Kabarole in Eastern Province. The new branches bring the total number of all branches in the province to nine.

BK is now virtually in all districts of the province, said Januario Mucyo, the bank’s Marketing Manager.

He explained that opening the branches is one way of bringing financial services closer to the rural population.
"We cannot instil the culture of banking and saving, when banks are not close to the population,” Mucyo said.

Jean Marie Vianney Makombe, in charge of district development in the Eastern Province, stressed that banking in rural areas is an important aspect of economic development.

He commended the bank’s initiative and requested it to open more branches in the country. "The new branches are in line with the government’s Integrated
Development Program (IDP). There is an interrelationship between banks and population,” he said.

Paul Nsanzimana, a resident of Rwanteru trading centre in Kirehe District, said that the new BK branch will benefit the local population.

He pointed out that residents had for long been requesting for such banking services.

"BK is the best commercial bank that we have in Rwanda. That it is now here is a land mark in the development of Kirehe’s population,” he said.
