The president of the International Cycling Union Pat Mcquaid will grace the African Continental Cycling championship that will take place in Kigali from November 10-14.

Over 80 top cyclists from Africa will take part in the 4-day championship which will attract countries like South Africa, Egypt, Libya, Morrocco, Seycelles, Cameroon and Eritrea among others.

News of Pat Mcquaid’s coming to Rwanda was broken to Times Sport by the president of the local cycling federation Aimable Bayingana on Sunday.

According to Bayingana, the UCI chief will also be coming to Kigali, among other things to attend the African tour conference scheduled for November 12, which will be looking at problems faced by African cycling federations.

"It is an honour that the president of UCI will attend the African continental cycling championship.

"He will also attend the African tour conference where we shall be discussing problems faced by African cycling federations,” Bayingana said.

Rwanda finished fourth out of 15 countries that took part in last year’s African continental cycling championship held in Namibia.

South Africa finished top while Morocco and Namibia came second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, preparations for this weekend’s Tour of Kigali have reached a critical stage. The tour starts on Sunday.
