Editor,

I read with interest The New Times’ editorial of October 18th, 2010, ‘Appropriate land management will end hunger’ because it was quite educative. I believe that the best way to fight hunger in the developing world is by investing in agriculture and appropriate use of the available land.

People move to urban centers in search for employment yet they have not fully utilized the chunks of land in their rural homes for cultivation of various food crops for consumption and for export.

The sensitization of farmers on advanced farming methods and land management skills will help in curbing hunger since it’s a disaster that has crippled several developing countries. However, crops harvested should be sold to the nationals then the surplus can be exported in order to ensure a high level of food security.
