KIGALI - Kigali City Council has received a $1.4m grant from UN agencies operating in Rwanda to boost local women who are weavers of the crafts locally referred to as Agaseke. The Mayor of Kigali, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, signed the memorandum of understanding on behalf of KCC while Aurelien Agbenonci, the UN Resident Coordinator, signed on behalf of the agencies.
KIGALI - Kigali City Council has received a $1.4m grant from UN agencies operating in Rwanda to boost local women who are weavers of the crafts locally referred to as Agaseke.
The Mayor of Kigali, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, signed the memorandum of understanding on behalf of KCC while Aurelien Agbenonci, the UN Resident Coordinator, signed on behalf of the agencies.
"The significance of the MOU that we have signed today will enable us to move another step forward in the Agaseke initiative because this will improve the social welfare of its beneficiaries financially and socially” Agbenonci said.
He also added that this will also provide more employment opportunities and economic security to over 2000 women around the city.
"As you know, we are celebrating the UN week, so as UN families based in Kigali City, it’s very important for us to provide this financial support to Agaseke members because charity begins at home”.
He revealed that this is the second phase of their financial support to the project since 2007.
