IT has been confirmed that Rwanda will participate in eight sporting disciplines at next year’s All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.

This was revealed yesterday by the Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sport and Culture (Minispoc) Gaspard Kayijuka.

Individual sporting disciplines on cards include athletics, lawn tennis, boxing, cycling, chess, swimming, table tennis and handball.

For team competitions like basketball and volleyball, teams will have to qualify through their respective zones.
Current holders Cameroon are the most successful men’s football team in the history of the Games - having won gold four times.

Women’s football was introduced at the 2003 edition, with Nigeria winning gold then, and again in 2007.

Rwanda took part in last edition’s event held in Algiers and returned empty handed. Dieudonne Disi was the country’s top performer following his fourth place finish in the half marathon.
