KIGALI - The Minister of Local Government, James Musoni yesterday held discussions with a German delegation from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate who arrived in the country on Saturday for a five-day visit.

The delegation which is composed of members of parliament from the European Union and investors, is led by Karl Peter, the Minister of the Interior for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

During the meeting, Musoni briefed the delegates about Rwanda’s progress in terms of implementing policies and programmes.

"We have registered tremendous progress in good governance, agriculture, education and other areas of development in our country,” he told them.

He added that the country is doing all its best to curb graft and that measures have been put in place to fight the vice.

"We have established and maintained very stable security systems and our country is one of the safest countries in Africa,” he said.

Musoni requested them to provide capacity building to local Rwandan leaders by giving them technical support in areas where they have skills gaps.

In the area of investment, he told the delegation that the country has a good investment climate and those interested in investing in Rwanda are welcome, adding that there are many areas where they can invest such as mining, horticulture, agriculture and other activities.

He added that a lot has been achieved in the country’s socio-economic transformation as a result of the decentralization policy.

The minister requested them to help the government in tracking down Genocide fugitives and bring them to justice.

"Our country has been at the centre of the international media who are trying to tarnish our image, and this is so irrelevant to what is taking place in Rwanda because we have registered tremendous success in terms of good governance, peace and security as well as development,” he explained to the delegation.

Karl Peter said that, they are going to provide capacity building to local leaders, in terms of technical support.
He also promised to clear the bad image propagated by the international media about Rwanda, by telling the truth about the country’s developments.

After the meeting, the delegation visited Gisozi Genocide Memorial centre, where they commended the country for putting up such a monument saying that it reminds the whole world to fight against racial hatred, discrimination and all forms of inhuman acts.
