Rwanda has set a standard that many African states long to attain. Despairing was done away with 16 years ago and unity and peace was opted for. Otherwise why would the former President of Ghana, John Kufuor, be in the country revisiting a once hopeless state that has turned quite successful.

The attention Rwanda receives that is both critically negative and positive has been the foundation of its resilience. ‘Spare the rod and spoil the child’ is one popular saying that Rwanda has kept close to her bosom.

With this in mind, a great deal of effort has been put into creating a system that depends on unity to thrive. Without unity, the strongest crumble and the weak gnash their teeth. I’m pleased by the fact that Unity is what has been used to transform the country into what it is today.

As I read The New Times yesterday, I was pleased with what Kufuor said about Rwanda. Something like this, "… you sense some resilience.

You sense people wanting to put back their lives together; you sense development…”

Not only are Rwandans and Africans sensing this positive energy radiating out of the East African country, the world at large is sensing this as well. Rwandans should keep up with this bandwagon of unity and see where the next decade will take us all.
