NYANZA - The District Advisory Council (DAC) during its extraordinary sitting on Tuesday upheld the decision taken by the Executive Committee to sack the district Executive Secretary over allegations of incompetence.

Hormisdas Kambanda, the DAC president in an interview with The New Times confirmed the development. He said that the District Executive Committee took the right decision to dismiss the former district Executive Secretary, Philbert Murenzi.

"The DAC found out that the former  Executive Secretary had failed in his duties and therefore the committee has made a decision to uphold his dismissal,” said Kambanda.

A District Executive Secretary is the head of administration in the district. He or she is the head of management and technical units of the district and is the overall supervisor of the public servants employed in the district.

Kambanda highlighted three key areas which led to the official’s sacking. He blamed him for allowing flawed tendering procedures, misallocation of the district funds and failure to supervise district projects.

"The district has about 24 projects that were not completed as planned largely due to poor supervision,” said Kambanda.

"The decision to sack him was timely, the post will be advertised by the district to find a suitable replacement,” said Kambanda in a telephone interview.
