AFTER many failed attempts, Dieudonne Disi hopes to steer Rwanda to her first Commonwealth Games’ medal in today’s full marathon.
Disi, Gervais Nizeyimana and Rachid safari will fly the country’s flag in the men’s 42.12km race while two-time Olympian Epiphanie Nyirabarame will feature in the women’s fray.
Going by the entries, Disi concedes that it is his best shot at a medal in New Delhi. "It’s a good opportunity and I want to take it with both hands,” the 29-year-old said.
The ace however knows that it will not be a smooth road with Tanzania’s Samson Ramadhan in the fray.
In the absence of former world champion Luke Kibet, John Kelai and Amos Matui lead the Kenyan charge. Kelai holds a personal best of 2:09:09 and has won the Toronto and Mumbai marathons in recent years, while Matui has a PB of 2:12:14.
And while neither of them boasts Kibet’s credentials, they should both be in the fray for medal ware.
