DESPITE finishing outside the medal bracket, Eric Sebahire deserves special praise for his 6th spot finish in the highly competitive 10,000m race at the on-going Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

The long distance ace set a personal best time after clocking 28.47.33 on Monday.

Uganda’s Moses Kipsiro clocked 27.57.39 to scoop his second gold medal of the Games after piping Kenya’s Daniel Lemashon by 18 micro- seconds.
Joseph Kiptoo of Kenya settled for bronze after clocking 27.58.58.

Sebahire, who is based in Italy, started very well and at some point raised a few eyebrows when he kept with the leading pack inside the first 20 laps. Unfortunately, he slowed down there after, allowing the pack and Tanzania’s Joseph Marco to break away.

In 1500m, Joseph Nzirorera recorded a personal best time of 3.48.40 but it was still not enough to push him to the next round.

In yesterday’s 5000m, Jacqueline Murekatete clocked 17.15.44 to finish 9th. Kenya swept all the medals as Vivian Cheruiyot took gold (15.55.12), Ines Chenonge took silver while Slyvia Kibet settled for bronze.
