Shyaka’s Dream

This morning I woke up at around 8:00 a.m, went to the bathroom and then back to bed. I didn’t sleep immediately for there was a lot on my mind that kept me thinking a lot. Slowly, I started getting sleepy again…zZzz…deep sleep I slumbered. I first dreamt of something “private”, woke up and then slept again. Care to know what I dreamt?

This morning I woke up at around 8:00 a.m, went to the bathroom and then back to bed. I didn’t sleep immediately for there was a lot on my mind that kept me thinking a lot.

Slowly, I started getting sleepy again…zZzz…deep sleep I slumbered. I first dreamt of something "private”, woke up and then slept again. Care to know what I dreamt? This is it:

We were either having breakfast or lunch, my Dad and auntie Jane were in the living room while I looked for a shirt to wear for to my cousin’s wedding.

When I looked in the pocket of one of my shirts there were small pieces of paper, a piece of toffee and two Rwandan Franc bank notes—one thousand and five hundred bills. I was so surprised because I never expected that kind of money in my pocket. I ran to the living room shouting, "auntie I found some money in my pocket which I didn’t know I had.

This is really good I’ll keep putting money in all my pockets so that it will keep supplementing what I’ll be having”. When I tried showing it to her, it was no longer fifteen hundred but now only one thousand.

Then I heard some creature tweeting outside the window, I ate the toffee and ran to see what it was.

It was a type of bird that I have never seen before. When I looked closely at it, it was a young bird learning how to fly. Now it had fallen on the ground and couldn’t fly.

Its mother wasn’t there, probably flew off when it had seen me coming, when I saw the young bird I had compassion for it for I thought that it would starve and die without help.

So I tried to feed it with the toffee that I had in my mouth and decided that I will be feeding it everyday until the day it will learn to fly.

After feeding it, I tried to lift it up so that I could take it into the house. When I touched it, its feathers were as hard as scales.

But when I lifted it, its mother attacked me and when it saw it’s mother it flew off my fingers and went on its mothers back. When its mother tried to patch, the young bird flew off her mother’s back.

The mother bird patched on our fence and we both waited for the young bird to come back, we were very worried that maybe something might happen to it but the bird wasn’t showing up. Then I woke up!!!

After waking up I remembered the dream and started thinking about it. Then the Holy Spirit spoke to me that we are like the young bird. Yes including me.

I am like that young bird. Now, the big bird represents God. And when we are in trouble we start shouting, murmuring and complaining or crying for help like the young bird was doing when I heard it tweeting the time I was still in the house.

God might decide to make someone have compassion on us so that they help us until we are strong enough to stand on our feet like what had happened in the dream when I had compassion on the young bird and had decided to feed it everyday until I learns how to fly on its own.

And when something bad is going to happen to us God come back to protect us just like the mother bird attacked me when it thought that I was going to hurt its baby.

Now, this is what hurts God. Just like the young bird saw that it had been rescued and cared for it wanted to take control and flew off my fingers yet it was not yet strong enough to fly on it’s own, and even when the mother tried to carry it on it’s back so that it could be protected but still the young bird was too stubborn that it couldn’t stay on its mothers back and the mother bird patched worriedly on the fence and kept waiting for its baby to come back.

So like the young bird, we are. When God does something small in our lives we think we can be in control and fly off like we don’t need him anymore. Yet in the actual sense as long as the devil exists we are very vulnerable and we always need to be carried on God’s back. Until we go to heaven that’s when we’ll be strong enough to fly on our own.

If you happen to read this, think about your life and see if this is not how you are living. Just like the young bird…then, try to do something about it.
