AFTER Saturday’s defeat against five-time champions Nigeria (, Rwanda’s U-18 head Paris Nelson said that the team needs to produce two good halves to win matches.
Well, that did not happen yesterday as the junior hoops succumbed to their second successive defeat after losing out to Mali 57-68 on day 3 of the Afrobasket U-18 Kagame Cup.
Rwanda won the first quarter 17-13 but like then switched off in the other quarters to gift the West Africans their second win of the competition.
Lionel Hakizimana scored a game high 27 points but it was all in vain. Mali’s scoring wheels were led by Kevin Demba 17points and Steven Amadou 15 points.
With two games left (Congo Brazzaville and Mozambique), Nelson and his coaching staff need to find a new game plan if Rwanda is to stand a chance of reaching the last eight.
Earlier in the day, Congo Brazzaville cemented top spot after beating Nigeria 79-67 while Algeria registered their first victory of the competition after thrashing Mozambique 73-65.
Egypt are the defending champions.
