JEAN Baptista Simuceka and Eric Sebahire will lead Rwanda’s surge in the 10,000m following Sylvain Rukundo’s withdraw.

Rukundo pulled out yesterday after failing to recover from a tendonitis injury he suffered while competing in Tuesday’s 5000m race at the JNL Sports Complex.

"He is not doing too well. For now, he is not ready to compete,” the team’s doctor Emmanuel Nsengiyumva said.
Rukundo finished 14th in the 5000m after clocking 14:14.85.

The race was won by Uganda’s Moses Ndiema Kipsiro.
Action continues this morning when Said Ndayisaba competes in the 200m preliminary round. The sprinter is desperate to pick himself up after a poor outing in his 100m heat stage where he finished last after clocking 11.44.
Joseph Nzirorera will also run in the preliminary round of the 1500m.

Cyclists will be in action tomorrow when they compete in the 64km road race.
