The immigration department has introduced more user friendly entry and exit cards.

The new cards aim to minimize time spent at departures and arrivals at the airport and land crossings.

Anaclet Karibata, director general of immigration, said the new forms are also designed to specify who is visiting Rwanda for the National Tourism Office (ORTPN).

Inter-institutional tourism groups working with the Directorate General of Immigration and ORTPN agreed on the content of the new arrival and departure cards.

A statement from ORTPN explains: "improving the entry and exit card is not only essential to know how many tourists visit Rwanda every month and every year, but also to know where they come from and why they decide to visit this country.”

For years this information has not been readily available in Rwanda and there is an urgent need to ensure that such information is collected and made available as Rwanda’s tourism industry expands.
