Police on Monday impounded two Tanzanian-registered trucks and arrested their drivers for allegedly selling tons of fertilizers that they were transporting to Rwanda from Tanzania. Police Spokesperson, Supt. Eric Kayiranga confirmed the development yesterday.

"We impounded the two trucks but investigations are still ongoing,” Kayiranga said. According to the police officer handling the case, one of the truck drivers is said to have sold part of the fertilizers and filled the sacks with sand while on his way to deliver them.

The duo was arrested at the Rwanda Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) stores after the sacks were identified to be packaged with sand.

"When they were offloading the fertilizers, some sacks were found loaded with sand,” the officer who preferred not to be named said.

51 sacks full of sand were discovered while hundreds others are said to be missing. The two unidentified drivers are both Tanzanian nationals working for the company that was hired to deliver the fertilizers.
