GICUMBI - At least 50 needy residents of Byumba, Ruvune and Muko sectors, Gicumbi District, will access health services after the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) 408 Brigade paid their health insurance.

The handover of health insurance receipts for the year 2011 to residents took place at the district last week.
The commander of the 408 Brigade, Brig. General Eric Murokore, said the humanitarian gesture is part of RDF patriotism to liberate Rwandans from disease and poverty.

The vice Mayor in charge of Social affairs, Eugenie Uwamahoro, hailed the RDF for its patriotic gesture.
"Unlike past armies which unleashed terror on residents whom they were supposed to protect, RDF is committed to addressing poor residents’ plight in addition to guaranteeing their security,” said Uwamahoro.

Godance Muhonganseko of Byumba Sector, one of the beneficiaries, was full of praise for the RDF.

"They have constructed houses for the poor, built roads, bridges and availed clean water and health services to many vulnerable Rwandans free of charge,” said Muhonganseko.
