Editor,

I’m extremely pleased that starting the next season, there will be a specific quota system in the local football league. According to the local football body, Ferwafa, Primus league sides will be allowed to field only five foreign based players in their 18-man squads.

This will be good for two major reasons. First, it will give the local talent a chance to play first team football in the top league. And second, the money that was given to foreign players will be enjoyed by local players.

All this will help strengthen the national side, the Amavubi. For example, although the English Premier League is probably the most popular in the world, it isn’t benefiting English football because there are barely any English players there.

That is why the England team isn’t doing as well as it should. Good, young English players aren’t getting a chance to play.
