That the UN is trying to insinuate that the government of Rwanda and other African countries were responsible for genocide is shocking.
In the past and in many countries, military personnel including high ranking officers have been found guilty of misconduct and been dismissed from the forces because of misconduct.
However, what I have never seen is a case where a few individuals are claimed to have engaged in misconduct and a whole army and a nation’s leadership being accused of misconduct due to the alleged misconduct of a few elements within its forces.
The UN report alleges that "elements from the armed forces of several countries were responsible” and the UN uses this to draw conclusions against a whole nation. You can not draw a conclusion based on what a few elements are alleged to have done.
There are a few facts that we have and one of the main facts is that the army and current government stopped the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. This is a fact that the UN is ashamed of...and they should be. The fact of the matter is that it failed in its core mandate of ensuring safety and dignity of persons.
In all honesty the UN should have been the main entity being investigated for gross misconduct and acts against humanity as well as many other abuses. Their huge role in turning a blind eye and letting the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi go on until it was politically correct to call it genocide is what should be under investigation.
Rwanda should stay focused on what is best for it and its citizenry because it seems, for some strange reason, the international community is persistently trying to create unrest in the country and in the region. Do not be swayed.
Remember, only you (Rwandans) know the truth about how bad things were and who ended the Genocide. Only you live with the memories of what international interference can do to your country. Make your choices wisely.
