NYAGATARE - Police in Nyagatare district are holding a man for allegedly hacking his wife to death. Moses Sesonga, a resident of Musenyi cell in Karangazi sector, is said to have hacked at Vestine Muhoza, his wife, with a machete on both legs.

"He stabbed his wife on both legs and immediately escaped into the night. Later, he called her, threatening that he would return to kill her. We arrested him two days later, on his way to carrying out his threats of killing her,” sources at Karangazi Police post told The New Times.

"We arrested him with the help of residents who were on night patrol.”

Area residents said night patrols were tightened at Muhoza’s house after she claimed to have received death threats from her husband.

Speaking from Nyagatare Hospital, Muhoza explained that she and her husband had had long-standing conflicts over one of her daughters, Joyce Mutoni, who was fathered by another man.

"He has always insulted me over one of my daughters. He never wanted her to be part of the family,” she said.

The Karangazi sector Executive Secretary, Emmanuel Murenzi, also said local authorities had on several occasions intervened to try and solve the squabbles in Sesonga’s home.
