Rwanda will take part in the fifth edition of All Africa University Games to be held at Makerere University in the Ugandan capital Kampala from July 6-16.

Rwanda University Sport Federation (RUSF) president Albert Kayiranga confirmed to Times Sport yesterday that Rwanda plans to send a team for the Games.

"We hope to send a strong team in this year’s edition but am fearful that lack of funds which has been our major problem might (once again) force us out.

"It is upon University heads to assist us (federation) such that we can send the best universities to represent our country,” Kayiranga said.

Kayiranga added that there is ample time to prepare and solicit for sponsors so as to enable Rwanda send a team that is not only going to participate but to compete.
Meanwhile, MTN Uganda has offered Ugsh150m as the main sponsors of this year’s edition of All Africa University Games.

The MTN package includes cash, trophies, medals, 30,000 T-shirts, airtime and entertainment during the games.

The deal was finalized a fortnight ago between the company and hosts Makerere University but the two parties are due to sign a Memorandum of Understanding before officially unveiling it.

The Games are expected to attract up over 40 countries and will be staged in Makerere University July 6-16.

However, All Africa University Games organizing committee clarified recently that they are looking for the bulk of the Shs6 billion budget to host the Games.

The universities will compete in football, volleyball, handball, basketball, chess, squash, rugby, swimming, netball, athletics and table tennis among other disciplines
