NYANZA - Philbert Murenzi, the Nyanza district Executive Secretary has been sacked over alleged failure to execute his duties; a senior district official told The New Times.

Abdallah Murenzi, the district Mayor, in an interview with this reporter said that the decision to sack Murenzi was sanctioned by the district executive committee after the committee was briefed that he had failed to execute his duties as expected.

A district Executive Secretary is the head of administration in the district. He or she is the head of management and technical units of the district and is the overall supervisor of public servants employed in the district.

"The Executive Secretary failed in his duties; he failed to follow up on the different development activities of the district, so we had no option but to relieve him of his duties,” said the Mayor.

However, the final decision in the matter rests in the hands of the District Advisory Council, according to the Mayor. Efforts to talk to Hormisdas Kambanda, chairman of the Council, were futile as he would not answer his mobile telephone.

Philbert Murenzi was appointed Nyanza district Executive Secretary in September 2008. He had previously worked as a director of good governance in Rwamagana district, Eastern Province. He declined to comment on his sacking when contacted by The New Times.
