RWANDA’s marathon team suffered a major setback yesterday after Gervais Nizeyimana was forced out of a light training session with what is believed to be a tendonitis injury to his left leg.

Nizeyimana is part of the three-man full marathon team that will compete on October 14. Dieudonne Disi and Rashid Safari complete the team.

The team doctor Emmanuel Nsengiyumva has advised Nizeyimana to take a three days rest.
"He needs to rest and take a lot of water.”

For the first time in the history of the Commonwealth Games, the participants will march with their respective contingents during Sunday’s opening ceremony.
Commonwealth Games Federation President Michael Fennell said this is a part of the protocol arrangements for the Opening Ceremony.

Normally, in multi-discipline events like the CWG, the Olympic Games and the Asian Games, the athletes march in as part of their countries’ contingents and are directed towards the centre of the field from where they witness the ceremony.
