HUYE - Police in Rusatira Sector, Huye District are holding a 25-year old woman for allegedly killing her three-year old son in a suspected case of involuntary homicide.

Solange Nyirahabimana, a resident of Byinza Cell in Kinazi Sector, is said to have hit her son; Israel Ntazimana with a stick as she tried to stop a fight he was having with a neighbours’ child.

"The incident happened around midday on Monday when the child was hit on the head and died immediately,” a Police source at Rusatira Police Station confirmed.
Speaking from the Police station, Nyirahabimana admitted to the killing, saying it was accidental. It was a case of punishment ‘gone bad’ she said.

"This was my child, I did not hate him, I was only trying to punish him as a parent. I call upon parents not to take matters into their own hands as it may result in such unfortunate incidents,” she said.
