RUSIZI - A second woman from  Kamembe Sector, Rusizi district, is the latest beneficiary of an award after giving birth on September 9 shortly after casting her vote, sector officials have said.

Jeanne Nyiramatagata, a resident of Mundima cell, from the historically marginalised group, was rewarded because of the sacrifice she made when she went to cast her vote even when she was feeling labour pains.

"This woman showed her unconditional support to democracy. Despite labour pains, she requested to be taken to a polling station so that she could vote for her candidate, Paul Kagame before proceeding to the hospital,” said Bosco

Nyiramatagata delivered two hours after she had cast her vote.

"I am happy that I was able to achieve two things on the Election Day. I voted for the right president and gave birth to a baby boy,” she.
The couple named their first born baby Obed Kagame.

"We take our newly born baby to be a special son and a reminder of all the good things that President Kagame has delivered to us,” said Jack Uwimana, the father.
Marie Alice Batamuriza, officer  in charge of social affairs at Kamembe Sector, said it is necessary to appreciate Nyiramataga’s efforts to campaign and vote for President Kagame considering her circumstances on  the poll date.
"Even if voting was by secret ballot we are rest assured that Nyiramatagata voted for the right candidate. Even before the day of election, she was always among the
RPF campaigning group in her cell,” said Batamuriza.

The rewards included foodstuffs, clothes for the baby, husband and mother and a sheep.
