MUHANGA - Four people have been confirmed dead after a public commuter bus, commonly known as ‘twegerane’, rammed into some trees at Kivumujunction in Muhanga district, on Sunday evening.

Police said that the accident occurred at about 7.30 pm when the Kigali-bound omnibus reg.No RAA 101U, lost control due to brake failure.

"The vehicle was coming from Ngororero. The situation is still uncertain but at least four people died instantly and several were injured. The bodies and injured victims were rushed to Kabgayi Hospital,” traffic police officials revealed.

The Kivumu, Kabengera and Kamonyi spots are some of the most dangerous areas on the Kigali-Muhanga highway and several accidents have claimed lives since the beginning of this year.

Residents say most of the accidents are caused by overspeeding and reckless driving, especially in the evening hours when traffic police presence is minimal.
