The Regional Population and Climate Change Network, a forum that aims to tackle problems caused by climate change and population growth was last week launched in Kampala, Uganda.

The Forum will bring together East African countries and the horn of Africa to address problems stemming from climate change and population growth.

Speaking to The New Times, Isaac Kabongo, Executive Director of Ecological Christian Organization, said the forum will bring together technical experts, civil societies and researchers from the region to discuss issues pertaining to population and climate, as well as their effects on the region.

"All countries of East Africa and the Horn of Africa are sending representatives who will be convening rotationally in different countries to discuss these issues”

Rwanda’s representative, Dr. Laurien Nyabyenda, noted that the creation of the forum is a stepping stone that will assist in tackling population and climate change problems that affect the region.

"I know climate change has affected the population in developing countries since we mainly depend on agriculture, so this problem needs to be handled with seriousness and a lot is needed to sensitize the local population about the effects.”

Nyabyenda said that he was optimistic that the discussions will yield results for the region.
