Rwanda Red Cross (RRC) has called upon students to form blood donation groups as a way of not only donating blood, but also getting to know their HIV status, thus participating in the fight against HIV/AIDS by being aware of their sero-status.

Addressing over 350 students from Kigali city, the Youth and Volunteer Coordinator of RRC Paul Bizimana encouraged the youth to donate blood on a regular basis.

During the event, the students donated blood and were counseled on reproductive health and prevention of HIV/AIDS.

Amina Mukeshimana, 18, a student from Ecole Islamique in Nyamirambo, said that she is now more aware about HIV/AIDS.

"I have realized that I need to be part of the blood donation team and seriously taking up measures to remain HIV/AIDS free,” Mukeshimana said.
