Beauty : ACCESSORIZE YOUR SKIRT FOR THAT TRENDY LOOK

Early this month I went to visit my daughter who is in a boarding school. I was not surprised by how tall she has become since I come from a family of giants, but was surprised when she asked me to buy her a new outfit to wear for the school leaver’s party day.

As usual I was expecting her to choose her usual jeans and a top, this time round – she took me by surprise when she asked me to buy her a lacy blouse and a skirt! She told me that all her friends have been bought for skirts by their parents, and that trousers are no longer in fashion but skirts are!

Back in the days when I was growing up, it was normal to wear a skirt- come the nineties and the trousers swept the fashion world like crazy until very recently when skirts came back  to the fashion world and took the trouser die hard fans by surprise.

Skirts are emerging as a strong fashion trend for season with enough variation so that almost anyone can find a skirt to flatter their shape. Plus, skirts are so versatile, giving you the opportunity to pair them with nubby, wool sweaters, silky blouses, and stylish jackets. A skirt looks appropriate in an office setting, on an evening outing, or just about anywhere you care to wear it, for as long as the skirt is well accessorized then you will never feel out of place.

There are different types of skirts that at least each lady is supposed to have in their wardrobes.

Pencil cut skirt; these skirts will have a touch of 40’s retro glamour this season with pencil slim widths that look decidedly sexy and feminine. Many of these skirts have high waistlines which can make your legs look impossibly long. The pencil skirt will be seen paired with matching form fitting jackets to give ultimate body conscious, glamour style. This look is ultra sophisticated for day or evening.

Pair the pencil skirt suit with a pair of high heels and you are ready for everything from the office to a dinner party.

Gypsy skirts; these are my favourite skirts at all times. One of the reasons that I like the gyspy skirts is because they are easy to handle. The wash and wear part is the most interesting part for me especially when am travelling, they never wrinkle and the fact that they don not need to be ironed makes them my favourite. Beautiful sheer fabrics which fall fluidly from the waist band are a great way to look chic and disguise a large tummy! These styles of skirts also look great when teamed with boots which is an ideal way to look good and keep your feet dry during the September/October showers!

Accessories should be long necklaces and numerous bangles! Wearing a long necklace will not only be in keeping with the gypsy style but also help to give the appearance of long body length, while bangles are one of this season's biggest accessory trends.

Pleated skirts; Pleated skirts are well worn with long sleeved chiffon blouses. You’ll find pleats on skirts ranging in length from mini to floor length.

The pleated skirt looks sporty and elegant when paired with a simple, form fitting sweater. These skirts tend to add volume to the lower half of the body which makes it important that you compensate by minimizing detail on the top. Longer pleated skirts worn with boots can be great for hiding less than toned legs.

Skirts will appear in a variety of prints and textures this season with bold, graphic prints and more sophisticated textured materials such as satin or velvet for evening. Lengths will range from well above the knee to just below. With the emphasis on boots this season, expect to see many of these skirt styles paired with boots. Any way you look at it, the skirt will play an important role in fashion this season.
