EALA convenes in Burundi

The 4th session of the East African Legislative Assembly will resume today in Bujumbura, Burundi with President Pierre Nkurunziza expected to address the law makers.

The 4th session of the East African Legislative Assembly will resume today in Bujumbura, Burundi with President Pierre Nkurunziza expected to address the law makers.

The assembly will debate the bloc’s elections bill, service commission bill as well as reconsidering amendments to the civil Aviation safety and security oversight agency (CASSOA) bill.

The first session in the chambers of Burundi’s National Assembly will be presided over by the EALA Speaker, Hon. Abdirahin Haither Abdi.

The session will receive reports from the various committees including the accounts committee on the audited accounts of the EAC for the financial year ending 2009.

Newly appointed Kenyan minister for EAC affairs, Hon. Prof. Hellen Sambili will be sworn in as member of the Council of Ministers.

EALA is the legislative organ of the East African Community consisting of over 52 members, 45 of whom are elected members and seven from ex-officio members.
