Roger Federer is past it

Editor,

A tennis pundit said recently that Roger Federer will win a few more majors but he will not be the number one tennis player in the world. A few months ago I would have said that that was impossible.

But having seen him lose over and over again to younger players like Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal this year, this time at the US Open, I think that we might be seeing his terminal decline.

A few years back, ‘Pistol’ Pete Sampras was the undisputed number one, but then came Federer who made him look old and it was obvious that there was a changing of the guard.
Honestly, I hope that Federer has a few more years at the very top of the sport because he has been a great champion and he will probably go down in history as the greatest of all time. Better than Sampras, Agassi, Lendl, Becker, McEnroe, Perry and Borg. That isn’t a bad legacy.
