MTN Rwanda yesterday donated an assortment of foodstuffs worth Frw 6m to needy Muslims of Nyarugenge and Rulindo districts in Kigali City and the Northern Province.

Speaking at the event that was held at the Biryogo Mosque, John Bosco Sendahangarwa, MTN’s Corporate Communications Manager said that the telecom company wanted to celebrate Eid el Fitr with the needy Muslims.

Muslims world over yesterday celebrated the Eid Day that marked the end of the Islamic Holy month of Ramadhan.

"Our donation is an expression of our appreciation for the support, patronage and loyalty to the MTN network,” he said.

He added that this is not the first time that MTN Rwanda joins the needy community to celebrate Eid el Fitr.

"This year we have increased our contribution from Frw 4 million to 6 million worth of foodstuffs to include the needy from Shyorongi sector in Rulindo district,” he said.

"There are so many Muslims in these areas that wanted to celebrate this big day but could not afford to. So it would be meaningless if some people were celebrating while others went hungry.”

He noted that it was a corporate social responsibility for the telecom company to give back to the community.
