Rwanda Tea Company, SORWATHE, was yesterday named the best overall exhibitor of the 13th Rwanda International Trade Fair, during the closing ceremony of the one-and-a-half week long exhibition at the PSF Gikondo Expo Grounds.
Kenya Commercial Bank and Madhvani Group came as second and third best exhibitors respectively.
SORWATHE was awarded with a trophy of excellence by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Monique Nsanzabaganwa.
Conveying his gratitude, the Director General of SORWATHE, J. C. Alles, commended the government for providing a favorable climate for private businesses and investments, which in turn has encouraged positive competition amongst firms.
"We are grateful that our work has been recognized as the best at this year’s Expo. Whatever we do as SORWATHE, we try to do it very well, specifically to meet the satisfaction of our customers,” Alles said.
Addressing the guests at the function, the Chairman of Private Sector Federation Robert Bayigamba said that compared to previous years, this year’s exhibition was bigger both in terms of number of exhibitors, and number of customers. This is a clear indication that Rwanda is undergoing an upward trend in business development.
"In 2005, we had only 305 exhibitors, but the number has been growing since then and this year we have had 444 exhibitors and over 159,000 visitors,” Bayigamba said.
He added that at the exhibition, many foreign companies had shown interest in registering permanent investments in Rwanda, particularly, SQ Vision, a Belgian based Security Company and GKK; a Dubai based interior design company.
This year’s expo was made possible through the contributions of various local companies including Giant beverage company, Bralirwa and Kobil, a leading regional petroleum company.
Minister Nsanzabaganwa commended the business community for their contributions towards the success of the exhibition and pledged continued government support through the implementation of programs favorable for the growth of the private sector.
