MATHIEU  Uwizeyimana’s maturity in the tennis world is under test as he vies to qualify for the main draw of the ITF Men’s Futures first leg in Burundi’s capital, Bujumbura.

The 20-year-old, who is highly rated by the local tennis federation, RTF, is one of 26 players chasing for the eight qualification slots in the two-day qualifying round which winds up today.

Some of the other players in contention include Egypt’s Karim Mohammed, Alexei Filenkov (Russia), Solomon Steffen (South Africa), Shingirai Muzondiwa (Botswana), Ronak Manuja (India), Mario Dierckx (Belgium) and the Nigerian trio of Clifford Enosoregbe, Onyeka Mbanu and David Ayeni.

Should Uwizeyimana make the cut, Uganda’s Duncan Mugabe, is one of those players the former will have to beat if he is to lift the title and enjoy the $10,000 cash prize.

Mugabe, who is fresh from winning the Simba invitational tournament in Dar es Salaam, is ranked 735 in the world.

After the Burundi leg, players will descend on Kigali for the second leg before heading to Kampala for the third and final leg.
