Rwandan artist scoops award

Ugandan-based Rwandan artist Baby Wander scooped an award in a music competition held late last weekend at Icon club, Kampala. The competition attracted 25 artists from Kenya, Uganda Tanzania and DR Congo. Baby Wander, whose real name is Amos Matsiko, pocketed one million Uganda shillings (over Rwf 350,000) and a trophy.

Ugandan-based Rwandan artist Baby Wander scooped an award in a music competition held late last weekend at Icon club, Kampala.

The competition attracted 25 artists from Kenya, Uganda Tanzania and DR Congo. Baby Wander, whose real name is Amos Matsiko, pocketed one million Uganda shillings (over Rwf 350,000) and a trophy.The competition was organised by Uganda’s renowned radio station Dembe FM as well as Icon club.

The competition saw the 25 year-old Baby Wander belting out most of his hits including Bazavuga Baruhe’ and ‘Dreamer.’

Baby Wander said he believes it is time for Rwandan artists to participate in regional and international music competitions so as to portray Rwanda’s image, as well as improve Rwanda’s showbiz industry.

"I’m so excited about the award,” Baby Wander said.
