Editor, I totally agree with both Ministers of the DR Congo and Uganda, “Uganda, DRC slam UN report” (The New Times 3 September) who said in an interview that the UN has done nothing to resolve DRC issues, but is instead looking for an excuse.

I totally agree with both Ministers of the DR Congo and Uganda, "Uganda, DRC slam UN report” (The New Times 3 September) who said in an interview that the UN has done nothing to resolve DRC issues, but is instead looking for an excuse.
The Ugandan minister said that the "UN is best at waiting for a bad situation which is never resolved and when people try to resolve the bad situation they turn around and start finger pointing”.
The Minister’s Congolese counterpart rightly questioned the credibility of the report saying that "experts say the leak was the UN’s manner of diverting attention away from its failures in the DRC...”.
Remember when President Kabila told the peacekeepers to go home? The issue went all the way to the Security Council and their argument was that their departure would create problems because the vacuum would increase rape in Eastern Congo. We now hear that 180 women and children were raped not far from the UN base. The so-called peacekeepers came to hear about it 10 days later! Wow! What were they doing?
It is easy to propagate lies about how Rwanda’s army is a gang of killers and what not in the comfort of a western café, sipping a cappuccino. Please give us a break. Where were you when a million Tutsis beings were slaughtered? My advice to you is to try to pacify real "hot spots” like Somalia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
