BUGESERA - The recently constructed market in Nyamata town, Bugesera District is making a huge positive impact on the district’s revenue and the people’s livelihoods.

Speaking to The New Times over the weekend, the district Mayor, Louis Rwagaju, said the Rwf 800 million market constitutes an important segment of overall district economy.

He noted that the residents have also benefited from being able to sell their produce from nearby.
"The taxes we collect add a lot to our internal district revenues…people now have market for their produce and within a short distance,” he said.

"The market has employed many residents and offered a good and clean environment. People become scattered when selling their produce, the impact cannot be over emphasized.”

Nathalie Mukakarangwa, one of the businesspersons operating from the market, reiterated the importance of the market to the general population, saying previously business had no meaning and was not secure.
"We used to work in appalling environments that worsened when it rained.

Our items were not safe because we had nowhere to stock them, but today its different  with the new modern market,” she said.

Jaen Pierre Itangishaka, a farmer in Ngeruka sector said that with the new market, he doesn’t have to go to Kigali anymore as traders from all over the country come to buy agricultural produce in Nyamata.

"The market has indeed helped us to sell our produce within the shortest possible distance. This has reduced transport costs and other risks involved in transportation of produce, especially perishable ones,” he noted.

Meanwhile the Mayor Rwagaju revealed that the district is set to improve the general infrastructure, and capitalize on its proximity to Kigali in order to develop rapidly.
