APR Fc Secretary General Adolph Kalisa yesterday confirmed to Times Sport that Dutchman Erik Paske had ‘resigned’ from his post as the club’s head coach due to family reasons.

The 45-year-old’s contract had ended last month and according to Kalisa, Paske asked the club not to renew his contract because he had family problems that necessitated him to stay close to his family in Holland.

"He has two young children and one of them has been sickly for some time. So he found it best to stay with his family back home in Holland.

"We thank him for the wonderful work that he did for this club and wish him luck in his career,” Kalisa told this paper.
Meanwhile, Kalisa also confirmed that Eric Nshimiyimana, who has been Paske’s assistant will be in charge in the meantime until the club takes a decision on whether to confirm him as head coach or look somewhere else.

"For the time being, he will perform the head coach responsibilities before we take a decision whether to retain him as head coach or we look for someone else,” said Kalisa.

Nshimiyimana, 39, who was also an integral member of the Amavubi team that qualified for the 2004 Africa Nations Cup, ended his playing career the same year and immediately assumed the assistant coaching role at APR.

He later left to manage AS Kigali but his successful stint as Amavubi interim coach when he guided a youthful Rwanda team to the final of last year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Nairobi, Kenya, where they lost to Uganda Cranes 2-0. He returned as APR assistant coach soon after the tournament.

Paske took over from his compatriot Rene Feller. During this time, the former Dutch international guided the army side to back to back league titles, the MTN Peace Cup as well as the Kagame Cecafa Cup.
