Lake Victoria Basin investment forum to meet in December

KIGALI - The East African Community will later this year hold the first ever Lake Victoria Basin Investment Forum, The New Times has leaned.

The Basin was designated as an important economic growth zone of the East African Community.

The forum to be held under the theme; "Realizing Economic Benefits in the EAC Common Market through the Lake Victoria Basin,” will be held during the first week of December in Mwanza, Tanzania

It is expected to bring together investors and potential investors from within and outside the region, and aims at showcasing investment opportunities that abound in the Lake Victoria Basin.

According to the EAC secretariat, representatives of several EAC organs and institutions, business leaders, and officials from EAC partner states will be meeting tomorrow in Arusha as part of the forum’s preparatory process.

"The key planning meeting objective is to interest potential partners for the first Lake Victoria Basin Investment Forum,” the statement reads in part.

"The forum itself will revolve around five sectors; Transport and Communication, Tourism, Agri-business and Fisheries, Trade and Industry, and Research and Development.”

The event is organized by the EAC Secretariat, Lake Victoria  Basin Commission, host nation Tanzania, national investment and tourism promotion agencies of the partner states, and the East African Business Council.
