In the 11th January publication of the New Times, I was surprised to read about government’s decision to postpone its plan of unveiling a programme to fight desertification.

Desertification is one of the major causes of climate change today. Government should stand up clear and fight anything that is bound to put our environment at risk.

Our hills need a lot of protection, and trees are the ultimate solution. Cutting down trees on the slopes of these the hills will cause soil erosion and this make the soils on the slopes infertile.

Since most food and other agricultural goods that feed us are from these slopes, we are bound to have a hunger ridden country once desertification is not controlled.

I think there should not be any compromise on the future of this nation. We are set to set our country on fire even before the nuclear bombs the developed world is making destroy it, once we neglect the causes of climate change.
