NEC hails Southern Province

Muhanga - the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has hailed residents and local leaders of the Southern Province for their outstanding performance in the just concluded presidential elections.

Muhanga - the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has hailed residents and local leaders of the Southern Province for their outstanding performance in the just concluded presidential elections.

NEC president, Prof. Chrysologue Karangwa, said that the province performed far better than was expected, both in the organisation and the turn up of residents to cast their votes.

Karangwa was presiding over the presentation of trophies and certificates of appreciation to exemplary districts, sectors and local officials who excelled in organizing the August 9, Presidential polls in the province

The province scooped the 2nd place in country with 98.8% voter turnout.

"The performance of the Southern Province was outstanding...this legacy should be maintained to prove wrong those who think ill of your region,” Karangwa said.
 "Nation building is a journey, and knowing our past shapes our future and it is through properly conducted elections that we will build our country”.

Gisagara district walked away with both trophies; one for the largest turnout and excellent preparations of the electoral process.

Two sectors in each of the eight districts in the province also received trophies in both categories.
