Disi is raring to go in Paris

RWANDA’s ace athlete Dieudonne Disi hopes to use the 33rd Paris-Versailles 16km race as a build-up to the Delhi Commonwealth Games due next month in India.
Disi is not a new face in the race after falling short of a gold medal last year.

The 29-year-old, who was using the race as a build-up to the Francophone Games clocked 48 minutes and one second to secure silver.

Morocco’s Mohamed El Hachimi won gold while Jairus Chanchima of Kenya settled for bronze.

The event proved to be a good warm-up for the athlete as he dominated the Francophone Games after winning the 10,000m. He was consequently named athlete of the Games and awarded the ‘Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie’ medal.

"Last year, it’s (Paris-Versailles 16km) what I needed before competing in the Francophone Games. I hope it can have the same effect on me prior to the Delhi Games,” he said.

Disi is currently training with his long distance counterparts Rashid Safari and Gervais Nizeyimana in Bugesera, Eastern Province.

Rwanda, which was formally incorporated into the Commonwealth last year, will only be making her debut in the Games which are held after four years.
